We Bet You Had No Idea That These Stars Were This Short
It's hard to tell how tall somebody is when you only see them on the big screen. Even television actors or T.V. personalities often appear taller on screen. They say the camera adds ten pounds, but it can also add a few inches.
All of the celebrities on this list are surprisingly short in stature. When people see them in public, they always get told that they look smaller in person. These celebs just take that as a compliment though. There's no shame in being short!
Mila Kunis Is 5' 4"
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are actually really good friends with Mila Kunis and her husband, Ashton Kutcher. Dax and Ashton worked together on Punk'd and Mila and Kristen worked together on Bad Moms. While Mila isn't quite as short as her friend Kristen, she's still pretty short.
Mila may be small, but she has a larger than life personality. This woman definitely isn't afraid to speak her mind. Ashton is over six feet tall.
Lady Gaga Is 5' 2"
Lady Gaga usually wears very high heels or platform shoes when she walks red carpets, so you may not be aware of how short she really is. This superstar singer and actress released a documentary on Netflix in 2018 called Five Foot Two which is a reference to her short stature.
The documentary offers a stripped-back, raw look at Gaga's life. She may be able to hide her height on the carpet or on stage, but she's not hiding anything in this documentary.
Kevin Hart Is 5' 4"
Ok, we've always known that Kevin Hart is short. His fellow comedians like to poke fun about his height all the time. Did you know that Kevin Hart is 5'4" though? That seems small, even for Kevin Hart.
I mean, most twelve-year-olds are taller than 5'4". You can really notice how short he is when he's standing next to all of his tall, sporty friends. He really does stand out in this photo.
Kim Kardashian Is 5' 3"
People don't comment on Kim Kardashian's height all that much, but it might surprise you to learn that she's actually one inch shorter than Kevin Hart. Kim Kardashian just wears very high heels most of the time. If you ever see Kim hanging around with some of her supermodel friends (including her supermodel half-sister, Kendall Jenner) you'll notice that Kim is actually several heads shorter than them.
Kim hasn't let her short stature hold her back though. She might just be the most famous Kardashian.
Nicole Richie Is 5' 1"
Nicole Richie rose to fame as Paris Hilton's other half on The Simple Life. She is also famous for being Lionel Richie's daughter. Paris Hilton is 5'8", so most people look short next to her, but Nicole looks extra short because she's only 5'1".
Now Nicole Ritchie's Simple Life days are behind her and she's a loving wife and mother. Richie married Joel Madden, who is 5'6", which is shorter than your average bloke. Nicole doesn't seem to mind, though.
The Olsen Twins Are 5' 2"
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are identical twins which means that they are exactly the same height. These two stars stand tall at five feet and two inches. These two first gained fame and notoriety as little Michelle on Full House.
Since then they've mostly left acting behind to become fashion icons. Most of their public appearances involve them sitting next to a runway or walking a red carpet. These two are much shorter than most of their supermodel friends.
Elijah Wood Is 5' 6"
Elijah Wood isn't as short as Frodo, but his proportions do make him perfect Hobbit size. Elijah often gets mistaken for another actor who's played a fantasy character. We'll see that guy a little later on this list.
Elijah Wood can't really wear heels to make him appear taller, so he just has to deal with being shorter than most of his celebrity friends. At least, he's shorter than most of the male celebrities that he's friends with.
Kourtney Kardashian Is 5' 0"
Kourtney Kardashian is even shorter than her sister Kim. Kourtney is known for being the most down to earth of all of the Kardashians. She spends her time out of the spotlight focusing on being a good mother to her three children.
Kourtney has never been insecure about her height. She does look very small in this picture and whenever she stands next to her taller siblings. Kourtney does love to wear high heels though.
Seth Green Is 5' 4"
Seth Green is one of the shortest men on this list at just five feet and four inches tall. We first encountered Seth when he played a cool werewolf in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Since then, he's taken on many comedic roles in iconic productions such as Austin Powers and Family Guy.
Seth Green is married to Clare Grant who is a supermodel and much taller than he is. He doesn't seem to be insecure about his height at all. Seth knows that he can be talented, handsome, confident, and short all at the same time.
Rooney Mara Is 5' 3"
Rooney Mara's talent as an actress knows no bounds. She's been in several Oscar-nominated films and she can hold her own as part of a star-studded cast. Rooney kind of looks like a model, which would lead people to believe that she's as tall as the average model. In reality, Rooney is only 5'3".
Every day, Rooney goes to work and proves that big talent comes in small packages. We can't wait to see what parts she takes on next.
Ellen Page Is 5' 1"
Ellen Page rose to fame after playing the title role in the teen pregnancy dramedy Juno, but Ellen had actually been working in Hollywood for a while before that. She starred in the films Hard Candy and The Tracy Files before Juno hit the big screen. Ellen's short stature allows her to play characters that are younger than she is in real life.
Because she's only 5'1", she's more believable as a high school student. Ellen is also a powerful force in the LGBT community.
Blac Chyna Is 5' 2"
Blac Chyna may not be an official Kardashian, but she is linked to the Kardashian family. Even though she's not related to Kim or Kourtney, she is about as tall as them. Blac Chyna is 5'2", which puts her just between Kim and Kourtney when it comes to height.
Blac Chyna came from humble beginnings and worked hard to achieve her goals. She didn't let a little thing like being 5'2" hold her back at all.
Ariana Grande Is 5' 0"
We've always known that Ariana Grande is small. Sometimes she still gets mistaken for a teenager. In reality, Ariana was actually born in 1993. She's well into her late 20s.
Ariana is exactly five feet tall, which means that she's very, very short. Maybe that's why she wears that high ponytail so often— she's trying to get all of the extra height that she can muster. Ariana may be small, but her voice is larger than life.
Bruno Mars Is 5' 5"
Bruno is taller than both Kevin Hart and Kim Kardashian, but he still isn't known for his height. So far, Bruno Mars is the tallest on the list, but he's still short compared to most male celebrities.
Look at him standing next to Taylor Swift. Taylor may be wearing heels in this photo, but Bruno is wearing a hat, so we're going to call that even. Bruno's height doesn't make him any less talented, musical, or amazing.
Reese Witherspoon Is 5' 1"
Reese Witherspoon is able to hold her own alongside her Big Little Lies costars, most of whom are much taller than she is. Laura Dern is 5'10" and Nicole Kidman is 5'11". Reese is only 5'1", making her a full ten inches shorter than Nicole.
Reese more than makes up for her height with her big personality. We didn't even notice the height discrepancy between her and Nicole while we were watching Big Little Lies.
Amy Poehler Is 5' 2"
You probably know Amy Poehler from Saturday Night Live or as Leslie Knope in Parks and Recreation. Amy has made a huge mark on the comedy world, and she did it all while only being five feet and two inches tall.
We knew that Amy was short, we just didn't know that she was that short. Sometimes Amy even jokes about her height in her comedy work. Amy's even shorter than Kevin Hart. Who would have thought?
Jada Pinkett Smith Is 5' 0"
Did you know that Jada Pinkett Smith, wife to Will Smith and mother of Jaden and Willow Smith, is just barely five feet tall? Jada is an incredible actress and she even has her own metal band. Jada and Will are nothing short of a power couple even though Jada is, well, short.
We'll have to wait and see how tall her kids grow up to be, but it already looks like Jaden isn't going to be as tall as his father.
Christina Aguilera Is 5' 2"
Christina Aguilera has a gigantic voice, but that big voice comes out of a very tiny body. Christina Aguilera is only five feet and two inches tall. She's the same height as Lady Gaga, so maybe there's something about being 5'2" that makes you a powerhouse singer (or maybe it's just a coincidence).
Christina has already made a big mark on the music industry. She was excellent on The Voice, and we can't wait to see what she does next.
Daniel Radcliffe Is 5'5"
Daniel Radcliffe is best known for playing Harry Potter in all eight of the Harry Potter movies. When he was first cast as the most famous boy wizard in the world, he was only eleven years old. Casting directors couldn't have known that Daniel wouldn't be doing much growing in the coming years. Now he stands at five feet and five inches tall, which isn't super short, but it isn't tall either.
When asked if his height hurts his career, he told Playboy, "I don't think so. I could play a soldier. The minimum height for a marine is five feet, and I'm well above that. If you're asking, 'Can you play a really [explicit] tall person?' No, obviously not."
Shakira Is 5' 2"
Well well well, another powerhouse female vocalist who's only five feet and two inches tall. I'm starting to think that there really is something to the theory that 5'2" is a special singing height.
Shakira's hips definitely don't lie, but you could argue that her height definitely does. Shakira is an excellent singer, dancer, and overall talented person, so we never would have assumed she was so tiny in comparison to some other pop stars.
Kristen Bell Is 5' 1"
American sweetheart Kristen Bell has a big personality packed into a pretty tiny body. She's just over five feet tall. Kristen looks extra short when she stands next to her husband, Dax Shepard, who stands at over six feet tall.
These two might have a big height gap, but that just means that Kristen always has someone to get the jar off of that top shelf. Kristen has never let her height (or lack thereof) hold her back.
Emilia Clarke Is 5' 2"
Emilia Clarke played Daenerys "Khaleesi" Targaryen on the hit HBO show Game of Thrones. Daenerys wielded a lot of power on that show. She had three fully grown dragons by her side and loyal subjects who were willing to put their lives on the line for her.
Obviously, all of her followers weren't phased by the fact that she's only five feet and two inches tall. To be fair, she does look a lot taller when she's on the back of a dragon.
Jack Black Is 5' 6"
Jack Black has the ability to make people laugh in a big way, but this actor and comedian is only five foot six. In this shot of him in the movie Jumanji, you can see that he's almost as short as Kevin Hart. You can also see that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is way taller than both of them.
Jack Black has been in a ton of amazing films including School of Rock and Nacho Libre.
Aziz Ansari Is 5' 6"
Aziz Ansari has been able to expand his comedy career to include movies, books, and his own Netflix Original Series, Master of None. Aziz isn't tall, but he isn't that short either. He measures in at around five feet and six inches tall. That's the same height as Jack Black.
You only really notice how short Aziz is when he's standing next to his Master of None costar Eric Wareheim. The height difference between these two is pretty staggering.
Hilary Duff Is 5' 2"
Hilary Duff stole our hearts as Lizzie Maguire back in the day. When she was a Disney Channel star, it made sense for her to be short because she was playing a high school student. Now Hilary is a full-grown adult and the mother of two beautiful children. She's still only five feet and two inches all, though.
Rumor has it we're getting a Lizzie Maguire reboot, and we can't wait to see what Lizzie and her friends are up to in 2020.
Paula Abdul Is 5' 0"
In this photo, Paula Abdul doesn't look much shorter than Justin Beiber, but that may be because she's wearing some very high heels. Justin Beiber is 5'9" and Paula Abdul is five feet, so you do the math to figure out how high those heels are.
Paula Abdul has said, "I think my height intimidates people ... When I tower under people, it's horrible". She told LA Magazine, "I'm five feet two on a good day. I'm five feet, one-and-three-quarters inches, but in my mind, I'm seven feet tall."
Jason Alexander Is 5' 4"
Jason Alexander is the shortest of all of his Seinfeld costars. Well, Julia Louis Dreyfus is 5'2", but Jason Alexander is only a couple of inches taller than her at 5'4".
"5'5" my darling, Alexander said replying to a fan on Twitter, "If I stand on tiptoe I come up to a normal man's nipples". My suit size is a 40 toddler if you're wondering about that, too." So what is it Jason, 5'5" or 5'4"?
Julia Louis Dreyfus Is 5' 2"
Ok, so we kind of gave this one away already, but just in case you weren't paying attention before, Julia Louis Dreyfus, who played Elaine on Seinfeld, is only five feet and two inches tall. In 1995 she claimed, "I'm 5'3", I've gone from a 7 1/2 to an 8 shoe. I wear an 8 now. And that's a big foot for someone who is 5'3."
We think a size 8 is a pretty average women's shoe size, so I wouldn't worry about that too much, Julia.
Snooki Is 4' 8"
Nicole Elizabeth LaValle, AKA Snooki, is the very definition of tiny. This reality star is less than five feet tall. She had a big personality on The Jersey Shore, but now she's toned down her hijinks and she's focusing on being a mom.
On Inside Edition she said, "I'm 4'9, maybe with the poof 4'11." She was 'measured by hand' at 4ft 8. In 2013 she mentioned her weight, claiming "I'm 4-foot-9, which is the size of a third-grader, so weighing 96 pounds is normal for me".
Michael J. Fox Is 5' 4"
Back to the Future star Michael J. Fox has never been known for his height. He's known for his stellar acting abilities and all of the work he's done for Parkinson's charities.
"Girls think you're so cute when you're short," he said. "They always want to put me in their pocket. Great, as long as it's their breast pocket. But you must never forget one thing. I'm 5 feet 4 1/2 inches tall. Don't forget the one-half inch."
Josh Hutcherson Is 5'7"
Josh Hutcherson, who is best known for playing Peta in the Hunger Games series, is only five feet and seven inches tall.
Now you might think that five foot seven isn't all that short, but Josh is a man in Hollywood, and most male actors are close to or over six feet. Josh got his start in the industry when he was a child. He played Jess in Bridge to Terabithia when he was still a teenager.
Anna Kendrick Is 5’0”
Anna Kendrick is a super talented actress and singer, and she often combines her acting and singing abilities in films such as Pitch Perfect and Into the Woods. Anna usually wears high heels when she walks red carpets, so you may have known that she's short, but did you know that she's only five feet tall?
Kendrick told Esquire, “I was angsty about my height when I was younger, but I love it now. Why wouldn't you want to be a little compact being?" She continued, "I used to think that guys preferred tall women, but plenty of them like short girls," she said. "Tall girls, short girls… just any girls, you know?”
Vanessa Hudgens Is 5'1"
Vanessa Hudgens is best known for playing Gabriella in High School Musical. For that role, it was good for her to be short because she had to pass as an 18-year-old. Vanessa is also known for absolutely slaying the game at Coachella every year. She's basically the queen of Coachella.
Vanessa Hudgens is only five feet and one inch tall. While it's not always easy to tell when standing next to Mickey and Minnie, she's not even as tall as a mouse.
Salma Hayek Is 5’2”
We've always guessed that Salma Hayek is short, but could you have guessed that she was only five feet and two inches tall? Salma is definitely a force to be reckoned with and she never lets her short stature hold her back.
Salma has been an activist for more than twenty years. In 2006, she donated $25,000 to a shelter for battered women in Mexico as well as another $50,000 to different Monterrey based anti-domestic violence groups.
Eva Longoria Is 5’0”
Eva Longoria is the shortest of all the Desperate Housewives castmembers, measuring in at only five feet. In this photo, she's standing next to some fellow short ladies including Reese Witherspoon and Salma Hayek, but Eva is still shorter than both of them.
Eva is an accomplished actress, producer, director, businesswoman, and activist. She's never let her height stop her from being a real success story in Hollywood. We kind of love how short she is.
Prince Was 5’2”
Prince was a legendary musician known for hit songs such as “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World,” “Purple Rain,” “1999,” “I Wanna Be Your Lover” and “When Doves Cry." It might surprise you to learn that Prince was only five feet and two inches tall. He also had a very petite frame and he only weighed around 140 pounds.
Prince often wore platform shoes on stage, but he didn't seem to care about his height all that much.
Martin Scorsese Is 5’3”
Martin Scorsese is one of the most celebrated and revered filmmakers in the world. This famed director, producer, screenwriter, and film historian stands tall at just 5’3”. He is one of the shorter men in show business, but he's never in front of the camera, so his height has never affected his ability to make amazing movies.
In this photo, you can see Scorsese standing next to actor Andrew Garfield, who is 5’10”, as he directs the 2016 film Silence.
Kelly Clarkson Is 5’3”
You can really tell how short Kelly Clarkson is in this photo of her having a conversation with Taylor Swift. Clarkson is only 5'3" and Taylor Swift is 5'10". These two are both equally good singers even though Swift is a head or two taller than Clarkson.
When Kelly first showed us that big voice of hers in 2002 on American Idol, we were completely taken aback. Who would have known that a voice that big came from a 5'3" body?
Thom Yorke Is 5’5”
Thom Yorke is the lead singer of Radiohead and he's one of the most respected musicians of our time. Even though Yorke has had a huge influence on the contemporary music scene, he's only five feet and five inches tall.
Yorke is a rather small person, but what he lacks in height, he more than makes up for in talent. Sometimes it's hard to tell how tall a person is from a photograph on the front of an album. That's certainly the case with Thom Yorke.
Paul Simon Is 5’3”
Simon and Garfunkel are an iconic duo, and just like all iconic duos, they have a stark difference that sets them apart from each other. Art Garfunkel is 5'9" while Paul Simon is only 5'3".
Five feet and nine inches isn't all that tall, especially in famous circles, but Garfunkle always looked extra tall when he stood next to his singing partner. In spite of their height difference, or maybe even because of it, these two made beautiful music together.
