They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but when a photo is snapped at just the right moment, it's worth even more than that. A picture can capture a single moment in time, but not all moments are created equal. Sometimes backgrounds and foregrounds line up in just the right way so that a photo becomes more than the sum of its parts.

Yup, Her Hair Is On Fire
This lady was just trying to throw her friend a nice birthday celebration at work when her hair caught on fire and the whole event went up in flames. This photo was taken in the split second before anybody realized what had gone wrong.
Make sure you always tie your hair back before you stick your face near a cake full of fire! We hope these ladies learned their lesson. Next year, there won't be candles on her cake.
Jumping In Together
This is what happens when you don't coordinate who gets to jump over the sand hole first. No one wins. You both hit each other and fall into the hole instead of safely landing over it.
Was a lesson learned here? Probably not. Will these girls make the same mistake again? Probably.
About To Spill The Beans
All this guy had to do was stand up straight in a photo and show off his three bean chili. He couldn't even do that right. I don’t even want to know what that carpet looked like literally half a second after this photo was taken.
We hope there were some other dinner options because nobody ate chili that night. Remember that scene in The Office when Kevin spilled chili all over the floor? That’s what’s happening in this photo.
That Hat Is Gone
The Golden Gate Bridge is the perfect place to take a picture with your significant other. Few views in the world are as stunning. Just don't wear the hat. As this guy learned, it's windy in San Francisco!
Judging from the colors of the hat, he knew that already. Black and orange means he's a Giants' fans. Well, he was a Giants' fan.
If You Fall Off, Get Right Back On
The first rule of horseback riding is that if you fall off, you should get right back on. The theory is that getting back on will help you build up your confidence. These people look like they need a confidence boost.
There are actually three kids falling off that horse, which is probably too many kids to be on a horse at one time. That's probably why they all fell off. Maybe that guy in the foreground should be watching the kids instead of taking a selfie.
A Cork To The Face
Have you ever been hit square in the forehead with a champagne cork? I have. It's not fun. The moment just before it happens is kind of funny though.

Never point at a duck. Ducks don't take to kindly to being singled out by a human figure. This picture is a clear warning.

So this munchkin probably isn't doing no-leg pushups, but the picture makes a convincing case she is. And now the Rock is trembling in his boots!
What was she doing? Our best guess is falling, which is pretty funny. She bracing herself and might have a classic faceplant in the process. In our heart, she'll always be doing pushups with no legs.
She Got Too Emotional
It's hard work being a bridesmaid. You have to pay for a fancy dress that you’re probably never going to wear again, attend a party with people you mostly don’t know, and stand by the bride’s side as she professes her love to her new spouse. This girl just couldn’t handle it. Bridesmaid number two does not look very impressed.
She knows she should have been the maid of honor and this is exactly why. She would never faint in the middle of the ceremony.
She Caught A Seagull
This seagull learned a rough lesson when it tried to steal this woman's food. She was having none of it and grabbed the bird by the throat to prove it. We're guessing this isn't her first rodeo.
Birds don't usually show emotion, but that looks like a genuine amount of shock from this one. The perfect crime just backfired, now it must pay the price.
Somebody Turned On The Sprinklers
Army training is never tougher than when you can't show your weakness to a sprinkler. If he moves one inch, he's cleaning the bathroom floor with a toothbrush. And it has to be so clean is sergeant can eat off it!
What's amazing is that no seems to notice their brother getting attacked by a surprise enemy. Whatever they're being told must be really captivating.
A Real Hawk Turned Mohawk
This photo brings a whole new meaning to the term "faux-hawk". It looks like the guy in this photo is sporting a funky hairdo, but really that's just a bird’s wing behind his head in the background of the photo. Who knows, it might actually be a hawk.
If only birds could imitate all kinds of hairstyles. Can you imagine a bird mullet? Or a bird fade? Or bird pigtails? Birds really need to get into the hairstyling business.
Transfixed By The Ring
This dog looks like he might have Jedi powers. He's concentrating so hard on that ring made out of food. Do we think it’s a dog treat or a human treat? Either way, the dog wants it. He can’t wait to get his teeth around that thing.
The angles in this photo are particularly good. That ring is right in the middle of the dog’s face! One more second and that treat would have been gone.
Waving Goodbye
If you fall off your skateboard, you don't get style points for waving goodbye as you dismount. That’s what the kids are calling falling nowadays— dismounting. This trickster tried to make his dismount look graceful, but in the end, he learned the hard way that you can’t always look cool and skate at the same time.
He’s trying to keep a straight face, but that also isn’t going according to plan. Better luck next time, kid.

This is a double-crested cormorant about to eat a fish for dinner. The composition of this photo is excellent.
The fish is right in the middle of the bird's beak, but the bird hasn't gotten a bite in yet. It's a bad time to be that fish though.

Uncle Tony is always running around with the kids, sneaking them extra cookies and playing baseball. But in a single moment, Uncle Tony went from favorite uncle to uncle who drops the children.

This seal hit the glass a little too hard and a little too fast. His poor face got all smushed up, but the whole event made for a hilarious photo.

A Muddy Face-Plant
This photographer captured a dog that we can only assume was once pure white face planting straight into a mud pit. We love the expression on this poor dog's face. He knows he messed up. He’s just not sure
Running in the mud can be a difficult task. It's ok, pupper, you can get right back up and try again. We humans wouldn’t fare much better on a surface that slippery. At least the dog attempted to make this fall look graceful.

First off, this is one of the most amazing pictures we've ever seen. Secondly, we had no idea orcas had hair. That is hair, right? We're going with hair, no need to google this one.
Back to the beauty of the photo now. Everything is perfect. If you folding it in half the two sides would match perfectly.
A Perfect Eclipse
Now is this the most beautiful photo of a bird you've ever seen or what? Lens flare and some very good timing allowed this photographer to capture an eclipse on the underside of this bird's wing.
Eclipses are a rare sight, and the fact that this photographer was able to capture this photo at exactly the right moment is nothing short of astounding. We can’t wait to see what this artist captures next. Although, this does seem like a once in a lifetime kind of photo.
The Lighting Was Right On Time
You mess with nature you get burned! We have no idea what this tree did to incur nature's wrath, but thank god someone was there to capture the moment.
We wonder though, did the tree not produce enough oxygen? Did it produce too much oxygen? The world will never know, and that's probably best for us all.
A Beautiful Shot
Things didn't quite out for the poor fish in this photo, but who cares when the color composure is so amazing. The contract of the bird over the water. The details in the tiny water drops! We're blown away.
It's all okay, little fish, you were eaten for the best cause. Nature can be violent, but sometimes there is incredible beauty in that.
He Wants To Be Fed Too
Apparently, this innocent girl was trying to feed the seals you can't the fish in her hand. This bird had other ideas. You know what seals? You snooze you lose. The tortoise doesn't always beat the hare!
Kudos to this little girl for not scare either. If I was feeding something in the water and something the air attacked me, let's just say it wouldn't be pretty.

Which horse do you think has better hair? Both have long straight flowing locks, but one of them wears it better. You can't decide? That's okay, they'll decide for you, by fighting!
Of course, they probably aren't fighting over who has better hair. They definitely aren't fighting over who has better hair. We just wish they were.
A Perfect Plane Photo
They say the pot of gold is at the end of the rainbow. This rainbow is being pretty lazy just giving away the location of the booty! The only mystery now is how to get up to the plane to win the cash prize.
Maybe it's a plane full of leprechauns, all moving their gold to hide in new locations! That's a plane we want to be passengers on.
Snapping At A Horse Fly
This fly bugged the wrong dog! What vicious way to have your already short life shortened. At some point, you'd think the fly would see the giant jaws of the dog coming down and book the other way.
According to the photographer, that didn't happen. This dog won the battle, but the war between horse flies and house dogs rages on!
Hitting The Pavement
This is the artsiest photo of a skateboard fail you are ever going to see. What followed was the pain of the process. Great art hurts, and this person paid for it in blood.

The Bird Got Away
Not surprisingly, it's easier for seagulls to steal food from children the grown adults. The bird finds it mark and swoops down just before he can take a bite. He does still take a bit... of air!
We're sure his parents will buy him a new hot dog. The seagull wins this round, but that salt bomb in its mouth is going to lead to some nasty aviary heartburn.
Birds And Planes Together
Another day, another seagull. This one has quite the following! There are at least seven mini planes following this bird wherever its journey takes it.
We know, we know, the plans aren't tiny and they aren't following the bird, it's just a perfectly timed photo to make it look that way. Sorry for trying to have a little fun.

Well, this is just unfortunate. You spend weeks training, getting your timing right, then you get to the line. The red light changed from green and BOOM; you blow up. Easy victory for the other guy.

A typical day at the Leaning Tower. The guy in the back is the hero we need but don't deserve. He's just there for the support so the lady doesn't fall flat on her butt. Not all heroes need to wear capes in the real world.
What is it with tourists all doing this same exact pose when visiting this site, by the way? Not only did the man in the background save the woman from falling but he made the photo a lot less boring.

It looks like this is a big day for this young man. Prom, the best night of any high schooler's life, right? Probably not. But still, this guy looks all dressed up and ready to pick up his hot date in the limo but not without dad taking a picture first. Clearly, he never learned anything about camera angles.

Ah, the time-honored tradition of the pre-prom photo. Here's how you do it: you get all dressed up in your special gown and pose for a portrait before your date picks you up. And then your dad takes off his shirt and lurks in the window behind you with a weird look on his face.
All you need to do now is put the photo in a frame and you're all set!

It looks like this little girl's trip to the zoo with her grandma took a turn for the worse. Either nobody actually realized what was happening when the picture was taken, or somebody with a sick mind took advantage of this girl's innocence and snapped this picture as a joke.
We gotta admit that it's kind of funny either way. And at the very least, it's a unique photo opportunity.

It's great to see a woman dress up as Rich Uncle Penny Bags. It's the ultimate troll during the Equifax Senate Hearing and a creative way to protest.
This story was actually in the news a lot because people were super impressed by this woman's bold move. Her name is Amanda Werner and she's a campaign manager at the nonprofit advocacy groups Americans for Financial Reform and Public Citizen. Kudos, Ms. Werner!
DUI Waiting To Happen
Isn't golf supposed to be a relaxing and quiet sport? An opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle and work on your short game in peace? Apparently, not for these guys. For them, it's an opportunity to drink 13 Miller High Life tall boyss and flip their golf cart on what seems to be flat ground.

Family Portrait Fail
Now this is exactly what it's like to be a teenager, encapsulated in one absolutely epic photo. Every family has that one child who will go out of their way to be silly for five seconds. Think about it, would you rather have this photo to laugh at or have a photo where he's making silly faces?
There's no way this one didn't end up on the Christmas cards. Or at least a permanent spot on the fridge.
Storefront Stalker
It's not entirely clear what this couple is doing in this photo. But whatever it is, they're standing in front of a storefront and seem completely unaware that there's a strange little girl staring at them with a totally creepy look on her face.
We hope this is one of those situations where they didn't notice the image until much later. And maybe that they were in a dark room when they first saw her face looking out at them.

Usually, people take maternity pictures to remember a simpler time before they actually had kids to worry about but could still call themselves soon-to-be parents. This dog, however, is having none of it and knows exactly what his baby is going to change his life too, so he's letting his owners know how he feels.

At least this isn't like the horror movie. Just three dogs sniffing butts, because that's all they do when their comrades are at the beach. A Neopolitan of butt sniffers, the dog not in the line is missing out on all the fun. Please Tom Six, don't make this into a movie.

Years from now, this couple and the guy planking in the back will have to explain to the kids what exactly planking is all about. It's really outdated but you don't have many options when you're at a church. It would have been funny if all the groomsmen did it with him.
Actually, it's been long enough that this is already really weird to look at. We think it's time for planking to make a comeback.

This kid is really dedicated to his team. Even though he seems to have a case of food poisoning or a stomach bug, he got dressed in his uniform and headed down to the hockey rink for a group portrait. Just gotta say that everyone around him is lucky that his aim is so good.

Senior Photos With A Big Twist
Thanks to a photobomber, one young lady in Oregon had her senior photos ruined... in a very hilarious way. After Jillian Henry posted the pics, they quickly got 24,000 retweets!
The reason they took off so fast because unbeknownst to Jillian, there was a nude dude and his pet pup in the background of some of them. Luckily she had a sense of humor about the whole thing. "We were taking some in the water when we realized he was a few spots down, naked, and we started laughing so hard," she said in an interview.
Paris And Kangaroo Jack
How long do you think it took Paris Hilton to notice what was going on in the background? It's no surprise to travel to Australia and seeing two kangaroos getting it on. That's the funny thing about animals: they'll do whatever they want, whenever they want. Especially when Paris is in town.
Apparently, even the kangaroos in Australia have heard what an animal lover the heiress is! She has like a gazillion pets.

Here we have a troupe of ballerinas, all decked out in their tutus. But who is that behind them? It appears to be a naked man jumping into the air, poised to attack. The guy who's being pinned by security kind of looks like Sylvester Stallone when you wake him up too early in the morning. However, take a closer look at the man in the background. The only thing that matters to him is that his expensive tasty beer is safe.
