These Country Singers Wore The Most Daring Dresses To The ACM Awards
The Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM) has been around since 1966, and the dresses just keep getting more daring. From unique patterns to bright colors (think hot pink and highlighter yellow) to lace to sparkles, these dresses scream "look at me!" These stars risked disappointing fans with their outfit choices but dared to go bold anyway. Would you wear any of these ensembles?
Nicole Kidman Dressed Like A Gothic Butterfly
Nicole Kidman's tall and slender physique looks great in long and flowy dresses. However, this dress breaks the mold with a design unlike any other. The sleeves are black lace and made to hang extra wide. The lace continues down her chest, giving a translucent illusion.
The lace is offset by a sparkly silver material. Though the top seems to loosely drape over her, the bottom wraps tightly and is finished with lace trim at the bottom. The sleeves are reminiscent of a butterfly, while the black lace gives a gothic feel.
She Dared To Flare
Maren Morris knew how to make an impression with this dress. It flares in all the right places and commands attention. The lilac color softens the otherwise loud dress. The top is brilliantly put together so that it appears to effortlessly defy gravity.
Though it's a short dress, the long train in the back offers the elegance of a gown. The material of the dress is thick, but not stiff, allowing the dress to flow while preventing any fashion mishaps.
This Dress Must Be A Nightmare To Put On
Cassidy Black opted for a dress that frankly looks like it was tied on to her at the last minute. The top is reminiscent of that look where you pull the bottom of a shirt through the neck opening to resemble a bikini top. Meanwhile, the skirt has folds of fabric that hang nonsensically.
The silky texture of the dress is definitely the highlight of this hot pink outfit. The pointed shoulders are a choice borrowed from the 1980s that we aren't sure have made their comeback just yet.
Amber Bartlett Resembled A Disco Ball
Amber Bartlett rocked a mini dress that falls to her knee on one side, and is much shorter on the other side. The asymmetry adds a touch of class to this otherwise standard nightclub dress. The large, circular sequins sewn into black fabric make this dress resemble a disco ball.
Her clear heels let the dress steal the show. A perfect outfit for Vegas, the itty bitty dress certainly pops. However, in the event she dropped something, it would likely be her husband who would need to pick it up.
Clarkson Loves Her Lace
Similar to Nicole Kidman's look, Kelly Clarkson went with a dark dress accentuated with lace. However, Kelly's lace is a bit more exposing, and runs in a long V down her chest. The black fabric is a favorable contrast to her ivory skin, which adds to the gothic feel.
Another gothic touch is her black nails. However, Kelly's neutral makeup and bright smile balance out all of the darkness of her outfit. The lace comes up almost to her neck which makes the dress look vintage.
Lambert Pulled Off Lime
Not everyone can pull off a bright green dress like Miranda Lambert can. Her soft tan complements the lime-like color. The dress is both form-fitting and flattering. While many dresses curve down at the chest, this one rises up into an upside-down V.
The top of the dress is secured by thin straps that softly wrap around Miranda's neck. She adds class to the look with large earrings and a soft purple and teal clutch.
Tae Dye Wore An Art Piece
Maddie Marlow and Tae Dye both look fabulous, but Tae Dye's outfit pulls the eye in. All of the wavy patterns and colors make this dress look like a work of art. Plus, the texture and material catch the light so that the dress shimmers.
Tae's simple updo, bronze earrings, and soft makeup allow the dress to steal the show. Her golden clutch picks up on both the gold in her dress and the suit that Maddie wears. Their outfits must have been coordinated because Maddie's clutch also matches Tae's dress.
Danica Patrick Looks Vacation-Ready
Danica Patrick's orange dress can be taken multiple ways. On one side, the soft shimmer of the fabric, tie at the hip, and orange tone makes the dress read "summertime." On the other side, it screams "pumpkin." Either way, the dress is form-fitting.
The dress's low-cut and modest slit shows a little skin while keeping it classy. Her silver shoes wrap around her ankles to mimic her wrap-around, silver bracelet. The design resembles a snake, adding a bit of edge to the look.
Reba Couldn't Get Enough Fringe
Reba McEntire has mastered the art of being both fancy and country. Her maroon dress complements her skin tone without clashing with her signature, fire-red hair. Four layers of fringe scream cow-girl, but she totally pulls it off.
Her boots are black with a white design. The black, white, and red color scheme adds elegance to the country style, incorporating two styles of fashion into one. Reba seemed to love this dress, as she couldn't stop spinning in it for the cameras.
Sara Reeveley Is Bringing Back Hot Pink
This dress screams flattering. The long trail counterbalances the tight top. The low-V is thin enough to not see over-exposing and is held together by a clear material that prevents the dress from accidentally opening or sliding to the side.
While the hot pink color certainly makes Sara Reeveley seem like a girly-girl, the glamorous design of the dress prevents it from looking cheesy. Instead, the color serves to make her pop in a sea of gorgeous celebrities.
Dakota Hood Is Looking Good!
Dakota Hood's dress incorporates two things that aren't always prevalent in today's style: pink silk and pink lace. The design of the lace is thick enough to give her topside complete coverage while adding a nice texture to the look.
The texture of the lace contrasts with the smooth silk that begins at her waist. The long slits make the dress a little more grown-up looking. Overall, Dakota looks like a flowery princess, but not in a childish way.
Taylor Mills Went For Sparkles
To some, sparkles are a fashion choice to avoid at all cost. To others, sparkles are heaven-sent. Taylor Mills appears to fall into the latter category. Between the purplish-pink color of her dress and the metallic fabric, this dress looks like it came straight out of a glitter spray bottle.
However, the design prevents it from looking like something a teenager would wear to a high school dance. Loose, mid-arm length sleeves seem like a continuation of the fabric covering her chest.
Jessie Jo Dillon Pulled Off Soft Glamour
Despite being a tight dress, Jessie Jo Dillon's outfit looks comfortable. The soft fabric is met with lace that adds both texture and design to the look. The pattern is also favorable to Jessie's physique.
While the dress itself doesn't scream out at you, this allows Jessie to play it up with her hair and accessories. Long, sparkly earrings frame her face, and heavy makeup draws you deep into her eyes. All of that plus her big hairdo, and Jessie looks strikingly similar to country legend Dolly Parton.
This Dress Brings The Sea To Land
The designer must have been lounging on the sand when this design idea hit them. The dress incorporates the textures and colors of the beach. Even her trail looks like a tide washing over the sand.
Stephanie Quayle definitely brought justice to this lovely design with her blonde, beach waves and tan skin. The embellishes in the dress's train looks like a cross between shells and flowers, while the stripes up top blend all the colors together.
Now That's How To Not Look Like A Disco Ball
This dress looks like those candle holders that are covered in small, shimmering glass tiles. The abstract design allows Brittany Taylor to stand out without looking like a disco ball. We aren't so sure about the fishnet slit over her hip, though.
The cut of the dress goes right up to her collar bone, keeping it classy and letting the unique design do all of the work. The dress doesn't do much for Brittany's slender physique, but we suppose that doesn't matter since the pattern steals the show.
Here's A New Fashion Trick
For years, the long-in-the-front-and-short-in-the-back style has added depth to dresses and skirts. However, this dress goes one step further, marrying that concept with the concept of slits. The dress is long in the back, but comes up strikingly high in the front.
The design is such that it appears to be wrapping around Carrie. Underneath, a long piece of fabric provides a strip from her waist down to the floor. The partition adds modesty to the dress without sacrificing its innovative design.
A Glittery Map Of The World
We can't say for certain that Hannah Billingsley's dress is an actual map of the world, but it does look like some of the inspiration could have come from one. This glimmering outfit takes the cake for shimmery dresses.
The glistening effect brightens the blue and green undertones to add elegance and playfulness. In some areas, the blue looks silver or even white, while the green looks bronze or gold. Overall, the outfit consisting of a top and matching skirt is a masterpiece.
Hello, Highlighter
Remember Miranda Lambert's dress? This dress takes that concept to another level. Where hers was bright lime-colored, this dress is the color of a highlighter. One good thing about it is Lindsay Ell was easy to spot throughout the night.
Despite the color, the dress is incredibly elegant and Lindsay looks confident as she wears it. The slits in both the chest and at her leg add an abstract design to the dress that matches the eye-catching quality of its color.
Barbie Went Dark
Barbie Blanks looks a tad bit like she's poking her leg out of a theater curtain. The all-black dress relies on its sparkles to add interest to an otherwise blasé dress. The exposed back, deep V, and high slit all add to the look.
However, the rest of the dress seems overly loose. It appears that the revealing parts are doing double the work since the rest of the dress engulfs Barbie's shape. What's worse is that Barbie's omission of jewelry and plain bun hairstyle draws your attention to nothing but the dress.
Savannah Chrisley Wore One Of The Most Daring Dresses In ACM History!
In 2017, beauty pageant competitor and reality TV star Savannah Chrisley wore an absolute show-stopper of a gown to the ACM Awards, making it clear that she's a professional at putting on a beautiful dress and owning it.
Chrisley rose to fame on her family's reality show, Chrisley Knows Best. The show follows her father's real estate business, as well as his life at home. She had an on-again-off-again relationship with Nic Kerdiles since getting engaged on Christmas Eve 2018.
Cassadee Pope Rocked This Dress
Between the pure white color and the big bow at the hip, this dress looks like a reenvisioned wedding dress. Cassadee Pope's strong physique suits the open back and open side design, while the sturdy material keeps things in place.
The long slit on one side is topped with a bow for a girly-meets-edgy look. The stark white makes her tan pop, while the complicated design adds intrigue to the plain dress. With any luck, this design may be the start of a new wedding dress movement.
Jessie James Decker Went Asymmetrical
Jessie James Decker's dress catches everyone's attention. The left arm has a long sleeve, while the right arm is strapless. The short skirt is slightly diagonal, and the print is like no other. It looks like a leopard print made with red and beige.
The dress also has a belt that almost looks like a garland. James topped off the look with a red purse, red lipstick, and beige heels. It's an odd dress, to be sure, but somehow it all works together. Only singer and fashion designer Decker could pull this off.
Lauren Bushnell Wore A Fancier Beach Wrap
Lauren Bushnell took the idea of a "wrap" to a whole new level. The wrap has one sleeve and is tied to a ring on her left side. It has a slit in the leg to show off Bushnell's silver shoes.
Underneath, Bushnell wears what looks like a one-piece swimsuit. The designer must have looked at swimsuits and beach wraps before creating this dress. It is also a reddish peach color, like a sunset. While it is creative and beautiful, the dress is also unusual. But it was not the weirdest one at the 2019 ACMs.
Danielle Bradbery Has One Strange Neckline
At first glance, nothing seems weird about Danielle Bradbery's dress. It is a dark blue-green with a long, flowy train and a slight down the leg. But the neckline is unusual. It looks like a v-neck, but the straps are far apart.
Instead of v-neck straps, which are diagonal, the dress's straps go straight up and down like thicker spaghetti straps. Also, the "belt" is made with the same fabric as the dress, but sideways. This dress may not have ruffles or asymmetry, but it is unique in its own way.
Kacey Musgraves Is A Pastel Princess
While other country singers went with bold, dark dresses, Kacey Musgraves chose a softer look. She broke the mold by wearing pastel and choosing a suit instead of a dress. The suit gradually transforms from sky blue to pink to green at the bottom.
The sleeves and pant legs are also flowing. It is a very feminine design and overall unique look. While it may not be a dress, it is worth a mention for its incredible style. Props to the designer for giving Musgraves a stunning look.
Carly Pearce Pulled Off Every Little Thing
Country singer Carly Pearce seemed to keep "Every Little Thing" in mind while picking out this dress. Although it is simple, it makes a statement. It is a red v-neck with long sleeves and a slit down the leg. The belt and sleeves have golden pearl-like buttons.
You can't get more classic than red, gold, and pearls. Pearce's silver shoes add a bit of pizzaz to the look. Pearce had a new single release in 2019, "I Hope You're Happy Now". We hope she's happy in that stunning gown.
Parker Welling Went For The Pantsuit Instead
Parker Welling has had three songs hit number one on Billboard's Country Airplay, so she deserves to wear something different. Instead of a gown, Welling wears a baby blue pantsuit with a unique silver design.
On both sides of her hips, there are unique silver stars. They look like Christmas stars from the mid-20th century. It is vintage and modern at the same time. The Nashville-born singer definitely has a sense of style. This pantsuit is unique enough to stand out, but is not too over-the-top.
Kasi Williams Wears A Regal Robe
Kasi Williams, the wife of country star Chuck Wicks, went to the ACM in comfort and style. Her gown can be better described as a robe. It has wide sleeves and a dark purple tie around the waist.
Williams's outfit looks like the nighttime wear of a queen. The royal purple has silver sparkles abound. The only difference is that it's cut short, ending mid-thigh. Anyone would want a dress as cozy and stylish and this one. In his classic black and grey suit, Wicks lets his wife stand out.
Karen Fairchild's Daring Patterned Dress
Karen Fairchild is a band member of Little Big Town along with her husband, Jimi Westbrook. She joined her band on the red carpet while wearing a dress with some dainty details. The pattern looks like it's made from different-colored gems.
The short black dress has long sleeves, square shoulders, and a consistent pattern throughout. But every design has different colors. It's a clever way to incorporate color into your outfit without overwhelming people. Fairchild wore fancy knee-high black boots with the dress--a signature mark of country singers.
Another Little Big Town Star, Kimberly Schlapman
All of Little Big Town came to the 2019 ACM Awards, including singer Kimberly Schlapman. She is known for wearing stunning dresses to concerts, and the red carpet is no different. Her gown has a hypnotizing stripe design.
The gown has a high neckline with no sleeves, and it is loose and flowing. A sparkling golden belt pulls together the strip design. The strips go every which way; it almost looks like a hypnotic design that warps peoples' vision if they stare at it for too long.
Go Wild, Hillary Scott!
Hillary Scott, the co-singer of Lady A (Lady Antebellum), went wild with color. Her gown features pink, beige, hot pink, orange-peach, and black. They fade in and out of each other, and are arranged in vertical stripes down the dress.
The gown has a deep v-neck with flowing sleeves and a belt with the same pattern. Her shoes are pastel pink with an adorable bow. Just like her concert outfits, Scott was not afraid to wear a daring design. She definitely stands out compared to all the black dresses!
Lauren Alaina's Ruffles Are To Die For
Lauren Alaina went straight from American Idol to the Academy of Country Music Awards. And when she walked on the red carpet, she made a statement! Her black-and-white dress with a sparkling ruffle skirt is an eye-catcher.
The white dress is outlined in black. The deep v-neck slides into a beautiful belt with a bow. Beneath her waist, her dress has three layers of ruffled skirts. Alaina paired the gown with a funky black-and-white clutch that is both different and matching. It is classy and bold.
Cam Puts A Different Spin On The Word Country
Singer-songwriter Cam is best known for her single "Burning House," and her ACM look definitely burns the house down. Instead of a dress, she wears black pants and a white shirt with a funky vest.
Her shirt is loose with wide, long sleeves, being both country and hipster. The vest (or half-vest, since it's rather small) has a floral design and a yellow bow. Cam tops it off with a black hat. The outfit looks more European country than American country, and it's a refreshing change of pace.
Look Closely At Andrea Boehlke's Unique Dress
At first glance, television host and reality star Andrea Boehlke looks like she's wearing a classic black dress. But it is not your normal gown. One strap is vertical, while the other is horizontal. The bust has an odd design with two different black fabrics.
The form-fitting gown has a slit down the right leg and a hanging tassel down the same side. Boehlke wears modern black shoes and an up-do to complete the look. Just as she once competed on Game Changers, this dress is a game-changer.
Deana Carter Runs With Ruffles
Since Deana Carter kickstarted her country career in 1996, she has worn many stunning dresses. Here, she shows off a simple ruffled gown. But simple does not mean boring; this dress has a criss-cross ruffle neckline that is both flattering and eye-catching.
The ruffles cross at the neckline, swing down, and cross again at the bottom. The off-the-shoulder design also includes spaghetti straps for extra support. Carter adds a bit of modernity to the look with her white heels. If you're a fan of black dresses, consider ruffles for a twist.
Cassie Pulls Off A Dress With Scales
At the end of The Bachelor season 23, Cassie Randolph got together with Colton Underwood. Here, she shows up at the ACM Awards with an unusual dress. The black gown is short on the right side and long on the left. On the left top and right bottom, it has silver scales!
More accurately, the silver design looks like medieval armor plating. The rest of the dress is a classic black v-neck, and Cassie pairs it with silver shoes. It's certainly an eye-catching gown, even if one side looks like a beta fish (which is not a bad thing!)
Beth Behrs Combines Country And Glam
Actress and writer Beth Behrs may not be a country singer, but she definitely pulled off the country look. Her pants and jacket resemble Mexican gaucho clothes. They have white embroidered details with ruffles and flames.
The pants have wide legs and end in traditional white cowboy boots. Behrs looks like she came straight from a farm. But the clean white and black look also has an element of glam that makes it appropriate for the red carpet. Well done to Behrs for embracing her inner country!
Abby Law Is A Shining Gold Nugget
Abby Law is the wife of Dan Smyers, one of the singers of Dan + Shay. She had no problem bringing gold to the red carpet. Her slinky golden dress has a low neckline, spaghetti straps, and a slit down her left leg.
Law showed up with her husband, his bandmate Shay Mooney, and Mooney's wife Hannah Billingsley. Compared to Billingsley's heavily detailed gown, Law's simple outfit stands out. It almost seems like they coordinated their outfits together. They're all glamorous in their own ways!
Check Out That Stunning Necklace On Katelyn Jae
Katelyn Jae, the wife of country star Kane Brown, brings all attention to her necklace here. It is a large choker indicative of ancient Egyptian collars, and it's sparkly silver. In contrast, her gown is a simple black.
The dress's bust has sparkles, and the waist is matte black. Under the thighs, the gown becomes sheer. It looks like a gradient from sparkly to translucent. Jae may not be a country singer, but she stands out as much as one. Her outfit matches Brown's black suit, too.
Kaitlyn Lucas Opts For A Crop Top Instead
Meet the wife of footballer Chris Lucas, Kaitlyn Lucas. She swapped out a traditional dress for pants and a crop top. Both are made of a silvery mesh material that adds texture while not being see-through.
The top has a high neckline, no sleeves, and an asymmetrical cut at the bottom. The pants are form-fitting until they flare out beneath the knees. Lucas pairs the outfit with gold heels. Her beige and silver outfit goes with Chris Lucas's beige hat, while he wears a baby blue suit.

Although Hannah Brown isn't a country music artist, she let her presence be known at the CMA Awards. Brown was crowned Miss Alabama USA in 2018 and went on to become a top contestant on The Bachelor season 23 and Dancing With The Stars season 28.
Brown shined in a delicate white dress with polka dot print and a long flowing train. Her red lipstick and diamond earrings paired perfectly with the dream-life fairy tale gown.
Did Maren Morris Wear Blue For Her Baby Boy On The Way?

She took home the CMA for Album of the Year for Girl. Before she performed her own songs, Morris wrote singles for Tim McGraw, Kelly Clarkson, and others.
Morris' dress doesn't show off her baby bump, however. She and her husband, country singer Ryan Hurd announced that they were expecting their first child, a boy, in March 2020.
Jennifer Nettles Arrived With A Message
One-half of the duo Sugarland, artist Jennifer Nettles had something to say when she showed up the 2019 CMA Awards. The Georgia native wore a white suit with clean lines and the female gender symbol on her pant leg. But it was the pink fabric resembling a cape that caught everyone's eyes, turning her suit into a type of gown.
The 2019 awards show is dedicated to women in country music and opened with an all-female performance of epic proportions. Nettles's pink addition to her suit read, "play our [expletive] records, please & thank you", urging radio stations to give female artists equal airtime.
Carly Pearce and Michael Ray in Sparkling Silver
"Every Little Thing" artist Carly Pearce attended the CMA's dressed to the nines in a dazzling silver dress with gold straps and detailing. Her look was a combination of edgy and glamorous for the big night.
